Yee ha! I've got 100 Followers! Thank you everyone. I soooo appreciate my book friends.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On a personal (and sad) note, which I'm writing here because my son reads my personal blog but not my book blog, and I just had to share with someone:
My son, who is 16, was at a party Friday night and the next morning, while on Facebook, he found out that one of the kids at the party had committed suicide at 4:00 that morning. My son wasn't close to him, but the neighborhood is small and everyone knows everyone. The high school's graduating class had 25 or 30 kids, and this boy was one of them. He was a football player and wrestler and the cutest, nicest kid. It's tragic, and I hate that these teenagers are getting their first taste of grief, as did I at the same age. You just want to put them in a bubble, don't you?
Thank you, my book friends, for listening :) I do hope you all have a wonderful week of reading. Be sure to give your loved ones an extra big hug today.
Feel free to comment on my books or my news. Didn't mean to bring everyone down!
Up Next - because I never got to them:
It's Monday! What Are You Reading? April 19
Sheila from Book Journey hosts this fun meme; join us if you'd like.
I wasn't "here" last week so I'll catch you up on my reads.
Past two weeks:
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks - Review (highly recommend)
The Little Prisoner - Review
Stiff - Review
Trauma Junkie - Review (Loved this)
Shattered Silence - Review
Birth Day - Review
Jantsen's Gift - Review (highly recommend)
Just finished:
Josie's Story.  Review to come.  Interesting memoir of a mom whose 18-month-old daughter was accidentally burned with hot water because of a faulty hot water heater.  After a 10-day stay in the hospital, she was scheduled to go home when she suddenly had a cardiac arrest and died due to a medical error.  (Very good book)
Currently reading:
Saving Israel:  How the Jewish People Can Win a War That May Never End (My husband is Jewish, and I saw this at the library.  Thought I'd check it out.  Not sure if I'll finish.)
Ready for Library Pickup:
Dry by Augusten Burroughs
I Never Metaphor I Didn't Like:  A Comprehensive Compilation of History's Greatest Metaphors
The Ask by Sam Lipsyte
I - The Creation of a Serial Killer by Jack Olsen
I Barfed on Mrs. Kenley by Jessica Harper
I don't know how many I'll finish, but that's what's on the way.
What about you?  Read any of the books I've mentioned above or plan to?  Come on, you know you want to read I Barfed on Mrs. Kenley. I was searching the library website for "I" The Creation of a Serial Killer and that popped up instead.  It made me laugh and I just had to get it :)
It's Monday! What Are You Reading? April 5
It's Monday! Time for my favorite meme. Sheila from One Person's Journey Through a World of Books hosts this fun meme.
Last week:
Jantsen's Gift (Great book!  Need to review)
Orphan Trains of Missouri
Saving Gracie: How One Dog Escaped the Shadowy World of American Puppy Mills
Reviewed:
This Book is Overdue
Gave up on:
Web of Secrets
Currently Reading:
Birth Day: A Pediatrician Explores the Science, the History, and the Wonders of Childbirth (really enjoying this one about birth and babies)
Ready to pick up at library:
Trauma Junkie:  Memoir of an Emergency Flight Nurse
When Dad Killed Mom
Stiff:  The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers
The Little Prisoner:  A Memoir
Shattered Silence:  The Untold Story of a Serial Killer's Daughter
Okay, now those really sound like uplifting reads, huh?!  Three of those titles I got because of our host Sheila's Social Justice Challenge post on Domestic Violence and Child Abuse.  Natasha at Maw Books hosts this challenge. Each month they focus on a different theme and I happened to be interested in the Domestic Violence and Child Abuse theme.  I saw this list of books and just couldn't control myself.  My mom is a nurse, and I had worked as a medical secretary since I was 17 and have always been fascinated by medical science, criminology, psychology, psychiatry and sociology.  Does that explain my depressing and morbid list of books?
It's Monday! What Are You Reading?
It's Monday! Time for my favorite meme. Sheila from One Person's Journey Through a World of Books hosts this, so head over there and link up so we can see what you're reading this week.
Finished:
Read 120 pages and couldn't finish:
Currently reading: (but *this* close to putting down)
Reviews:
The Last Child
Tweak
Still need to review This Book is Overdue, which I really enjoyed.
After trying to read Remarkable Creatures and Beautiful Creatures and not liking either one, I've finally figured out that I don't like fantasy. You know why? Because I don't have an imagination. I don't know what happened to it. Or maybe I never had one.
I guess that's why I like memoirs so much.
So next time I announce that I'm reading anything with the name "creature" in the title, whether it's beautiful, remarkable, or whatever, please cyber slap me.
Up next:
Not sure yet. Whatever suits my fancy, comes in from the library hold list, or calls out to me from Borders..."Use your 40% off coupon on me!"
What's going on in your reading world?
It's Monday, What Are You Reading?
This meme hosted by J. Kaye's Book Blog where we post about what we've read, what we're currently reading, and what we plan to read is my favorite because I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE seeing what everyone's reading. I'm stealing my post from yesterday's Sunday Salon because it shows exactly what's going on in my world of reading.
Books read and reviewed:
Cowboy and Wills
Notes Left Behind
Not Lost Forever
Books I've read and need to review:
Love Heels: Individual stories about support dogs through Canine Companions for Independence.
The Kids Are All Right: True story about a family of four kids whose father is killed in a car accident and the mother dies of cancer months later.
Angel Animals: Inspirational stories from people where a pet or other animal made a significant difference in their lives.
5th Horseman: About a mystery killer at a hospital who puts buttons on the eyes of people after they are dead.
The Tall Book: Non-fiction book written by a 6'3" woman; everything you ever wanted to know about being tall. (I'm 5'10" and my 16-year-old son is 6'8")
Just Listen: Non-fiction book that tells the secret to getting through to anyone, in business and relationships.
This Lovely Life: Memoir written by a mom who delivered twins at 24 weeks; one of them died after 4 days and the other one was blind and had severe disabilities. Despite her clear wishes that the doctors not go to heroic efforts to resuscitate the babies at birth, they did so anyway, and she tells of her resentment and experience of raising a severely disabled child.
And today I'm going to start reading:
Saving Cinnamon: About a puppy found on a military base.
AND as of yesterday I have a 16-year-old! Which means he'll get his driver's license. Which means I won't have to drive him everywhere. Which means....
You got it, I'll have more time to read! Woot, woot!
How about all you? What's going on in your reading world?
