On a personal (and sad) note, which I'm writing here because my son reads my personal blog but not my book blog, and I just had to share with someone:

My son, who is 16, was at a party Friday night and the next morning, while on Facebook, he found out that one of the kids at the party had committed suicide at 4:00 that morning. My son wasn't close to him, but the neighborhood is small and everyone knows everyone. The high school's graduating class had 25 or 30 kids, and this boy was one of them. He was a football player and wrestler and the cutest, nicest kid. It's tragic, and I hate that these teenagers are getting their first taste of grief, as did I at the same age. You just want to put them in a bubble, don't you?

Thank you, my book friends, for listening :) I do hope you all have a wonderful week of reading. Be sure to give your loved ones an extra big hug today.

Feel free to comment on my books or my news. Didn't mean to bring everyone down!

I'm almost done with Mary Sutter. Very good, but slow in parts (for me).

I agree, Diane. I'll probably end up giving it 4 stars. I'm enjoying it but not loving it.
Yeah, I know what you mean, Diane. I'll probably end up giving it 4 stars, because I am enjoying it but not loving it.

You and your son are in my thoughts, tragedies are difficult to say the least. I always find comfort in books and it sounds like you've found a few companions during this hard time. I was just thinking about posting about books for different moods, so I'll have to check out the book on the subject - thanks for the review! :)

Thanks Sami. You're right, books are great to turn to during good times AND bad.

You should check out the books for different moods. I don't know if I'd buy it, but certainly check it out at the library.
Mary Sutter has been on my list to buy for a while now.

I am very sorry for your son and your whole community for their loss. Hopefully, the boy has found the peace that he wasn't able to find here. It always breaks my heart to hear of a young person taking their life. I remember how deeply depressed I was at that age and while I thought about ending it many times, I am so grateful that I listened to a teeny tiny, very hard to hear voice inside that said, "Hang on, it will get better, I promise." Hug your son for us:)

You had a great reading week! WOW!
My recent post The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold book- audio- and movie – a love hate relationship
Thats terrible news about your son's class mate. I hope that your son copes with the loss. It would be very hard, even if he wasn't that close to the boy. its sad to think of kids feeling so desperate that they take such actions.

On a more positive note, I like the sound of that grammar book. Mine is absolutely terrible and I am increasingly looking to read a book that might help me improve
My recent post The Passage by Justin Cronin
I have 1001 Books for Every Mood on my shelf, and I love it! It has introduced me to many a great book, and the different categories are so clever.
Oh my Goodness. .. that is so upsetting about your son's classmate. I think when a kid in such a small class like that commits suicide, it probably has ramifications for quite a lot of the kids and parents and the community. Such a tragedy.
My recent post SM5S- Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
That breaks my heart....teens are so impulsive and can't see past their pain and that things will get better. Hug your son for me please and let him know that we care!

I am so sorry to hear about the young man taking his own life. It is such a hard thing to go through. My best friend's son did the same 12 years ago.

Great reading weeks. I have to check out the Pam Jenoff book.

So sorry to hear about your son's classmate. I hope your son is dealing with it okay. Tragedies like this are always a shock.

Enjoy your books this week. It looks like you have some good ones coming up.
