Remember Me?

Hi everyone.  I'm back from a two-week long, much needed - but not always nice - break.  You know, flat tire, sinus infection, sick kid, 16-year-old's first fender bender (his fault, of course).  Inconveniences I'd rather not deal with but are part of life?  I did spend a week with my family in southern California, so at least that was fun.

But I've missed my blogging friends!  And even though I took a break from blogging, I never stopped reading.  Here's the lowdown:

WHAT I'VE READ:
  • The Mountain Between Us ~ Charles Martin (5 Stars, loved it)
  • Messages:  Signs, Visits and Premonitions from Loved Ones Lost on 9/11 ~ Bonnie McEneany (4 Stars)
  • Spunk & Bite:  A Writer's Guide to Punchier, More Outgoing Language and Style ~ Arthur Plotnik (5 Stars)
  • Bonobo Handshake:  A Memoir of Love and Adventure in the Congo ~ Vanessa Woods (4 Stars, enjoyed the parts about the bonobos but not so much the politics and war.)
  • Strangers at the Feast ~ Jennifer Vanderbes (4 Stars; dysfunctional family gathers for Thanksgiving dinner; a cliffhanger because you know something really bad happens, but it doesn't happen till the end. Author does a great job of keeping an otherwise boring storyline interesting until the climax. Disappointed in the vague ending but otherwise enjoyed.)
  • Steps to Writing Well ~ Jean Wyrick (4 Stars)
  • Full Court ~ The Untold Story of the St. Louis Hawks ~ Greg Marecek (4 Stars)
I don't know what my recent obsession with books on writing is about; unlike a lot of bloggers, I have no desire to write.

I read Full Court because my son plays high school basketball with Ed "Easy Ed" McCauley's grandson.  "Easy Ed", who played for the St. Louis Hawks, an NBA team, attends all of our games.

MISSED:
  • The 32nd Annual YMCA Book Fair.  I must have been sick!  Darn it.
LOST:
  • My mind.
I'll get it back by September, I promise.  Anyone else taking a break or in a blogging funkslump?  I know Staci from Life in the Thumb wrote about her blogging blues one day and got lots of sympathizing comments.
Eva at A Striped Armchair declared August a month of no blogging worries to ease pressure on herself and simply read on a whim. The Literary Stew wrote a post today about her reading and blogging slump. Good to know I'm not the only one.

The weather in St. Louis today is gorgeous, and I can't decide between going on a horseback ride with my friend Donna or a motorcycle ride with my husband.  Hmmm...

Have a good day, everyone!

Hello! Glad you had some time away even if some of it was no so fun! Looking forward to your thoughs at One Dog at A Time. I watched a show about dogs they have to leave and it is so sad.
Welcome back; you were missed, but at least you got to visit family.
I am sorry that you were sick and don't know what to say about the fender bender. I got a similar call the other night from the step daughter and really evil thoughts went through my head before I even thought to ask, "You are ok, right?"

I am just giggling over all the books about writing and yet you say that you don't want to write. You do write for a blog, ya know. They aren't going to write ya a big royalty check for it, but all bloggers can use the tips:)

Sorry you've had some inconveniences! I've never heard of "The Boy Who Came Back from Heaven", but will have to check it out!

You're welcome for the award~
Do both...ride the horse in the morning and the motorcycle with the hubby later in the evening so he can take you out to dinner!!! I made a challenge to myself and posted it on my reading challenge blog..limiting myself to a few publishers I will accept ARCs from and tour books. Using a calendar to keep track of what I'm accepting and realizing that I need to back off and read for myself! That is the key!! I'm not surprised that we're addicted to sugar...the food industry has really perverted our food in a big way. We have forgotten what fresh tastes like!! I totally enjoyed your short little reviews on the books that you read!

Glad to have you back and hope you're feeling renewed!!!

I have an award for you: http://www.readingatthebeach.com/2010/08/award-time_28.html
I think any one who has been blogging for any length of time goes through slumps some time. Just take a break and come back when you're ready! ; )
My recent post SM5S- Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer
You and me too! I was away for two weeks as well, and didn't know you were off on a break too. Guess we missed each other, lol! I'm still settling down - I actually moved to a new place and started a new job. Glad that you got to read a lot though - I missed reading. Take your time settling in, I know how hard that is.
My recent post Its Monday! What are you reading - August 30- 2010
Welcome back. It sucks about the fender bender. I remember my first one and how terrifying it was (both happening, and then having to tell my parents about it!). I read some of Spunk & Bite for a class last year, but not a lot of it. It seemed like a fun book though.

Missed you Lynne! Glad to have you back and that your sanity will be returning in a matter of days :D

Looks like you got some readign done and that always keeps me level and "sane like" at leats enough to pass inspection....LOL
Thanks for your comments everyone. I'm so glad to be back!
i had to take a break from the blogosphere too. although unlike you i had to stop reading too. i just had to much on my plate to do anything else but study. hopefully after this weekend things will change. glad to see that you're back though!
