Review: Notes Left Behind

Notes Left Behind

by Brooke and Keith Desserich

My Synopsis

True story about a 6-year-old girl diagnosed with a brain tumor, who left little love notes around the house for her parents and younger sister that they found after she died.

My Thoughts

I had heard about this book for a while. It's one of those books you think you want to read but you're not really sure you want to because you know it will be sad. And it was. But it was also very sweet. I loved how the parents included pictures throughout the book that correlated exactly with what was going on in the story, so it felt like I was experiencing what they were going through, from surgery to chemo to her face becoming swollen and disfigured from the tumor. Tough to see, but again, this little girl was incredibly sweet and thoughtful; in a wise-beyond-her-years way, she comforted her family in life and after death, and that made the story heartwarming and bearable.

Do I Recommend?

Yes, if you don't have little ones at home that would make it hit too close to home, you can tolerate sad books without it completely depressing you, and you're in the right mood.

My Rating

4/5

Wow ... that is an amazing story. However, since I have a 6-year-old, I think I'll avoid this book for now.
